Where is your stone sourced?
Borrowed Earth sources natural stone from quarries across the world, including regions known for their distinct geological formations like India and Portugal. Each region’s stone carries unique characteristics, shaped by its geological history. Borrowed Earth excels in transforming these diverse materials into dimensional, textured objects. While traditional quarrying often results in wasted material, Borrowed Earth is committed to utilizing 100% of extracted stone, including remnants, to reduce waste and advance responsible stone usage, crafting objects that connect us to the natural world.
How are these objects made?
Borrowed Earth uses robotic manufacturing to create architectural objects by utilizing advanced computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software to create highly detailed and complex designs that would be difficult or impossible to achieve using traditional methods. In the final intervention, each individual piece is obsessed over by our team of skilled craftsmen who, painstakingly hand-finish and smoothen out, using hand brushes the tool marks striations selectively, based on the desired effect of each texture and pattern

Yes, all Borrowed Earth Objects are food safe and leave our premises pre-sealed. To preserve the natural beauty of the stone, we immersion dip seal all our product for 24 hours in the highest quality food grade protective sealant. This approach maintains the wonderful natural look and feel of the stone without covering it with transparent paints or resins.

- Sealant Limitations: While the sealant offers excellent protection, no sealer can make natural stone 100% stain-proof. It acts as a temporary barrier, providing a few hours to clean up spills before they penetrate and cause stains.

What is a pre-order?
To ensure that you receive one of our limited edition pieces, pre-orders can be placed for items that are in production but not yet available to ship to. Pre-orders are charged at checkout and are shipped as soon as they become available. Your payment method will be charged for the full order total at the time the item ships. Pre-orders that have not yet shipped are eligible for cancellations, please email us at objects@borrowedearthcollaborative.com with your order number to request a cancellation. We may be unable to accommodate cancellation requests depending on where your item is in the production process.
